Abstract

SynopsisRadiative double electron capture (RDEC) is a fundamental atomic process in ion-atom collisions, in which two electrons are captured to bound states of the projectile with the simultaneous emission of a single photon. To date, RDEC has been successfully measured only in collisions of bare O8+ and F9+ ions with thin-foil carbon targets. In this work we report progress on investigating RDEC in collisions with gas targets.
