Abstract

The ground state energy of electron-hole drops in optically excited indirect band gap semiconductors is examined. The radiative and the phonon-induced contributions are calculated in the Hartree-Folk approximation for the first time. Apart from the condensation of electron-hole liquid for weak electron-phonon interaction, there is a possibility of condensation of electron-electron and hole-hole pairs to form a two-component fluid of the electron-phonon interaction is strong. If there are strong eight-particle interactions between pairs, the biexcitons will condense rather than the electron-hole pairs.
