Abstract

The solutions of pure radiative and combined radiative and conductive heat transfer within an L-shaped enclosure are presented. The enclosure contains a mixture of scattering, nongray pulverized carbon particles, C02, and N2. Three different types of problems are solved: homogeneous radiative properties, nonhomogeneous radiative properties, and combined conduction-radiation problems with nonhomogeneous radiative properties. The YIX method is used to solve the radiative transfer equation. A single-point, implicit, quasi-Newton scheme is used to solve the energy equation when both heat transfer modes are present. The scheme works well for a wide range of conduction-radiation parameters except when the parameter is less than 0.2.
