Abstract

Polyampholyte hydrogels were synthesized by gamma-radiation-induced copolymerization of vinyl ether of monoethanolamine with sodium acrylate. The synthesis regularities of the hydrogels have been studied. The effects of the feed mixture, cross-linker concentration, absorbed dose on the gel/sol fractions and swelling behavior of the hydrogels is studied. The swelling behavior of the hydrogels was studied as a function of pH. It was found that the isoelectric point of the polyampholyte hydrogels depends on the composition of copolymers. The interactions of the synthesized hydrogels with linear poly(acrylic acid) and poly(vinyl ether of monoethanolamine) lead to the formation of gel–polymer interpolyelectrolyte complexes.
