Abstract

Magnetoelectric materials exhibit altered permeability with the application of a static electric field. As such magnetoelectric materials have the potential to affect the radiation properties of antennas loaded with such a material. In this paper, we explore the radiation properties of patch antennas loaded with slabs of magnetoelectric hexaferrite materials. It is shown that changes in permeability, due to an application of a DC voltage or electric field to the magnetoelectric material, result in radiation properties that are systematically altered as the resonance frequency of the antenna is shifted lower in the UHF band.
