Abstract

Several examples of the radiation pressure exerted by neutrinos are solved using rigorous methods of wave optics, derived from the momentum-balance equation for nonrelativistic and for relativistic wave equations. The examples considered involve a plane-wave neutrino incident on a plane target and a spherical target. Analytical and numerical results are given for the net force on a sphere; it is in the direction of the incident neutrino and is of second order in (n-1). The net force on a sphere is also evaluated to first order in (n-1) for a spherical wave from a nearby point source.
