Abstract

Inspired by the phase mode processing of the fully spherical antenna arrays, an analytical approach to calculate the far-field radiation patterns of the spherical cap antenna arrays is proposed. A comparison between radiation characteristics for circular antenna, spherical cap antenna and spherical antenna are provided. It is demonstrated that the radiation patterns of these antennas differ in the behavior of beamwidth and sidelobe level. The directivity and beamwidth of spherical cap antennas are analyzed with respect to the spherical angle and the radius.
