Abstract

This work gives the results of a series of experiments attempting to improve the crease-recovery properties of cotton fabrics. This was successfully realized by crosslinking cotton cellulose, using multifunctional monomers initiated by ionizing radiation, alone or combined with a delayed heat cure. Parameters were radiation dose, initial monomer concen tration, mixed monomer systems, and effect of a delayed heat cure. The results showed a significant improvement in wrinkle resistance of treated fabrics, with practically no loss in tensile strength.
