Abstract

Abstract Gamma-irradiation of aromatic carboxylic esters in alcoholic solutions brings about the reduction of the ester group to aldehyde, alcohol, α-ketoalcohol, and 1,2-glycol. The reduction is effected by solvated electrons and solvent-derived hydroxyalkyl radicals.
