Abstract

Optical and scintillation properties of 50AEO-50SiO2-1SnO (AE = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) glasses were investigated. In photoluminescence (PL) and scintillation, the glasses showed a luminescence peak around 400 nm which was attributed to the T1-S0transitions of Sn2+. The afterglow levels of theAE = Mg and Ba glasses were better than that of a commercial Tl-doped CsI scintillator. The light yields of the glasses were quantitatively acquired and theAE = Ba glass showed the highest light yield of 63 ph/5.5 MeV-α of among the glasses.
