Abstract

Radiation-induced increased melanosis in the lobster shell system was investigated. Irradiation was found to increase melanosis by accelerating the conversion of prephenoloxidase into active form during subsequent storage through activation of the prephenoloxidase-activating enzyme, by increasing the rate of release of tyrosine and by enhancing the reactivity of tyrosine shortening, at the same time, the lag period of enzyme reaction.
