Abstract

The effect of germanium oxide on the nomenclature and nature of color centers responsible for the induced adsorption of activated phosphate glass was investigated. The spectra of the gamma-irradiated glass based on La(PO3)3 with the GeO2 content not exceeding 40 mol % were recorded and analyzed. It was suggested that the existence of an isosbestic point indicated the interaction of two independent subsystems: phosphate and germinate ones. The model composition corresponded to 5GeO2 · 10La2O3 · 85P2O5. Partic-ipation of the Eu3+ in the suppression of the induced absorption in the region of 400 nm (25000 cm–1), which was due to the [PO32-] centers, was demonstrated. The spectra of the induced absorption of the glass produced under reductive conditions both the initial ones and the ones containing Tb2O3 were practically identical and demonstrated a lack of the induced absorption in the visible range of the spectrum.
