Abstract

In assessing the embroidered conductive yarn wearable antennas, which are commonly used in the vicinity of a human body, it is important to assess the following two types of loss: 1) the loss caused by a human body, and 2) the loss caused by a conductive yarn. The embroidered wideband wearable slot antennas with different sewing patterns based on the calculated results of the current distribution for the same type copper antenna have been presented in this paper. The proposed embroidered antenna with a current-distribution-based sewing pattern enables the radiation efficiency enhancement in free space and reduces the amount of the conductive yarn by about 50%. In addition, the proposed antenna demonstrates the radiation efficiency similar to that of the copper reference antenna when those antennas are placed in the vicinity of the human equivalent phantom.
