Abstract

Cosmic rays and radionuclides imbedded in cometary material were the sources of energy available for free radical-promoted reactions in comets. The ionizing radiation also provided energy sources for chemistry in the hydrosphere of our early planet, particularly in some geological arrangements of uranium and water acting as natural nuclear reactors. The understanding of these processes stimulates studies in dosimetry and on multicomponent aqueous systems, in a large range of doses, temperatures and LET. In this work we survey some recent results.
