Abstract

Kinetics of free radical decay in γ-irradiated poly(ethyl methacrylate) is followed by ESR spectroscopy. Decay of components contributing to five and four line spectra was investigated between 20° and 60° C. At temperatures well below the glass transition and close to that of glass transition, decay was found to be described by second order kinetics. Activation energy of free radical decay for the quintet and quartet part of the spectrum was determined to be the same, namely 30.1 ± 5.7 kcal/mol.
