Abstract

The stability of γ-irradiated ethylene-propylene elastomers, namely ethylene-propylene copolymer (EPR) and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) can be satisfactorily evaluated by the oxygen uptake method. The rates of oxidation induced by γ radiation were assessed on the samples immersed in aqueous sodium chloride solutions of various concentrations. First and second derivatives of [O2]=f(time) dependencies are invoked for the evaluation of oxidative degradation.
