Abstract
The results of the analytical and experimental study of the propagation and radiation behaviour of dielectric-coated conical horns with small flare angles are reported. The analysis of the fields in such a horn is made using spherical hybrid modes. The characteristic equation for the separation constant is obtained. The radiation characteristics are derived using vector diffraction formula with the assumption of no phase variation over the aperture of small-angle cones. Analytical results are in good agreement with experimental results. Axial directivity and beamwidth of conical horns have been found to improve due to dielectric coating.
