Abstract

Empirical formula was determined to estimate the radiation balance of the surface as a multilinear function of the outgoing longwave radiation and the radiation balance of the surface-atmosphere system measured by NIMBUS-7 satellite over the Carpathian Basin. The correlation index between the calculated and measured radiation balance was 0.97. After calculating the surface balance the atmospheric radiation balance was also determined. Using measurements of six radiation stations the absorption of the atmosphere was estimated between May 1979 and May 1980. Radiative model calculations were also fulfilled using climatological average values of the investigated region. The influences of changes in cloud coverage and surface albedo were investigated. The effect of a volcanic eruption on the radiation balance was calculated at present and future (+100 ppm CO 2) conditions too.
