Abstract

We have previously shown (Berry, Hall and Cavanagh, 1970) that HeLa cells grown in vitro into confluent, “stationary phase” cultures were more radiosensitive than the same cells irradiated during the period of exponential growth. In addition, if grown to confluence unfed in medium 199, hypoxia at the time of irradiation gave a reduced amount of protection against lethal radiation damage.
