Abstract

Radial variation of plasma particle density and energy for a cylindrical geometry has been studied in neon, argon and air for the pressure range 140–3300 μ under steady-state conditions. Improved spatial resolution for the local plasma parameters, in the radial direction has been provided for. Good agreement of the observations with Schottky's theory is obtained when the boundary conditions provided by the experimental results are used. Electron energy remains fairly constant radially and the departure from the charge neutrality is found to be negligible.
