Abstract
A motion of ions perpendicular to the magnetic field is observed experimentally during a large amplitude potential oscillation caused by the formation and disruption of moving double layers in a plasma. This radial motion is closely related to an appearance of the strong radial electric field formed between a high potential plasma composing the double layer and a wall surrounding the plasma column. The field accelerates the ions outwards from the plasma and gives rise to an ion transport towards the wall.
