Abstract

The objective of this research is to electronically control the steering in a vehicle with power steering system using a side-stick. To achieve this goal an electronically controlled module is implemented on a rack and pinion steering system. This module is operated using a side-stick. Necessary sensors and actuators replaced the conventional steering wheel. An embedded controller is used as a control unit. Required interfacing circuits are designed and implemented. For investigation of the proposed steering control system, a mathematical model is developed. The test rig of the control system showed a great benefit in modifying a conventional steering system to be electronically controlled. The simulation results agree well with the test results.
