AbstractRacism has had substantial effects on families living in the United States. Racial differences in familial experiences, such as marriage, number of children, and divorce, reproduce racial disparities in wealth, income, employment, and educational attainment. The consequences of this inequality have deleterious effects on both young and old in minority families. While interracial marriage has increased, it remains rare. Today immigrant families face unique challenges as they attempt to achieve the American dream.
