Abstract

Summary To provide unambiguous evidence for racial discrimination in rentals, black and white confederates (six male, six female) visited 18 apartment house managers. They inquired about the availability of an apartment and the amount of rent and other fees. While no racial discrimination with respect to rents and fees was found, data revealed substantial discrimination with respect to apartment availability. Results are discussed in terms of other research on interracial interactions.
