Abstract

Donor sperm banks offer online databases of donor profiles for people seeking third party reproduction, making searching for donors with specific characteristics a straight-forward process. Though this technology has helped many individuals conceive and start families, people of minority ethnic backgrounds report difficulty finding donors concordant with their identified race and ethnicity. Previously published studies on the demographics of oocyte donors revealed a disparity in the number of Black oocyte donors when compared with the population of Black women in the US and the number of Black individuals seeking to use donor oocytes (1).
