Abstract
In a recent study1-2of the incidence of acute myocardial infarction in white patients among the cases which came to autopsy at Washington University for the period 1910-1954, several striking facts were apparent. The incidence of acute myocardial infarction had increased markedly over the years, especially among elderly women. The relative incidence had changed from two males to one female in the period 1910-1939 to one to one in the period 1940-1954. Because of these findings, we believe a review of many of the established concepts regarding the incidence of the disease entity is indicated. One feature that requires further investigation is the incidence among Negroes.
