Abstract
The application of alloxan solution to the rabbit cornea induces a profound damage to the stroma and endothelium of areas previously deprived of epithelium. A heavy oedema and opacification of the stroma appears in the course of the first day after application: later on, vascularization of the stroma occurs. All the steps of this process were followed experimentally by means of the silver staining methods of Jabonero and McGovern, routine histological staining, and supravital staining with methylene blue.
