Abstract

This article aims at discussing the relationship between race and inequality in the opinion of Brazilian intellectuals. For this sole reason, the most representative authors as for the Social relations sociology have been chosen. I strongly believe that these authors´ view about race and nationality are elements of utmost importance in order to understand their posture towards fighting racism and discrimination in Brazil. Despite being an intense debate, there is no consensus among researchers on the role of race in the structuring of social inequality in Brazil. The article highlights that empirical studies are to be performed so as to have a better elucidation of the relationship between race and inequality. These will show the dilemmas and difficulties in implementing affirmative policies in Brazil.
