Abstract
RATIONALE: Racemic albuterol and formoterol contains equal (50:50) concentrations of the enantiomers. RSV can trigger asthma and cytokine secretion. The (R) enantiomer of albuterol exerts bronchodilatory properties and (S) enantiomer bronchoconstrictor and proinflammatory activity. We demonstrated decreased secretion and expression of IL-8 by albuterol enantiomers in allergen-stimulated A549. This current study determined the effect of selected beta2 agonists on IL-8 secretion by RSV grade 2 antigen (RSVag-stimulated cA549 cells.
