Abstract

Quito, Guayaquil (Ecuador) - Tradition and modernity: towards an internationalization of architecture. The architectural evolution study of Quito and Guayaquil allows to highlight the internationalization of the architecture since the twenties, whichever social classes considered. In fact, some common points can be bring out. In Quito, as in Guayaquil the architectural witnesses study put in a prominent position the « importation » of European patterns that are sometimes interpreted in a different way in the Sierra and in the Costa by the well-off classes, each region suiting to the styles according to his « mentality » and to the climate. The internationalist trend is all the more pronounced because the penetration of the North American influence emerges like the most important since the fifties. The economic and social changes and the way of life transformations that they create give birth to a new architectural order that gives a specific way to these two Latin-American metropolises.
