Abstract
Quinalphos is an organophosphorous compound that is highly toxic in nature and an inhibitor of cholinesterase. It is an insecticide available in liquid form, in different amounts such as 25% emulsifiable concentrate, 35% emulsifiable concentrate and commonly used for crops such as cotton, mustard, paddy, etc. The minimum dosage for use is 150-1500 ml. Organophosphate poisoning has been a leading cause of suicide attempts in developing countries. This study sheds light on a case in which quinalphos was mistakenly swallowed, causing side-effects of cholinesterase such as dry mouth, diarrhea, and salivation. Agri-farmers in contact with OP pesticides on a daily basis should be provided with information and guidance on the use of products to avoid damage.
