Abstract

The model described herein uses the vertically averaged wave equation and momentum equations to simulate two-dimensional tidal flow. The model uses quadratic isoparametric elements in space and a new explicit in time scheme to compute surface elevations and velocities which are essentially noise-free. The model is shown to be efficient in that it requires the solution of no matrices. A sample application to the southern North Sea demonstrates the utility of the model.
