Abstract

ABSTRACT:Recent work in the politics of urban development is characterized to a significant degree by undertheorization. Concepts tend to be relatively concrete. The more abstract concepts through which they are necessarily interpreted lack the critical attention they should receive. Abstract concepts, therefore, do little for the interpretation of lower level concepts in terms of the higher. These contentions are illustrated by reference to recent arguments and studies in the politics of urban development.
