Abstract

Case reportA 42 year-old female diagnosed with essential iris atrophy complained of visual decrease in the right eye. Examination revealed moderate corneal oedema, folds in Descemet's membrane, polycoria, corectopia, and iris atrophy.Excimer laser assisted Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty was performed, with a good corneal transparency and a significant visual improvement being obtained. DiscussionThe results one year after the surgery, with visual acuity of 0.4, clear lens, pachymetry of 580μm and cylinder of 0.5 D, with low endothelial cell loss, suggest that further studies are required to evaluate the efficacy of this technique in patients with iridocorneal endothelial syndrome.
