Abstract

The flowing afterglow technique has been used to study the reactions of N 2(A 3∑ + u' v = 0, 1) with some methylmercury and mercuric halides. Room temperature quenching rate constants and rate constants for production of HgX(B 2∑ + were measured. Evidence is presented that shows another electronic state of N 2, besides N 2(A), can produce HgX(B) via dissociative excitation reactions with HgX 2.
