Quenching of magnetostriction by torsional strain in zero-magnetostrictive amorphous wire

Abstract

Simple model band calculations show that torsional stress reduces the absolute value of the Joule magnetostriction . This is the consequence of the quenching of orbital magnetism by torsion. The calculations provide an explanation of recent experimental data on almost zero-magnetostrictive amorphous Co-based wire.
