Abstract

THE CHINA POLICY of the United States has been subject to continuous obfuscation in recent years. The trend of most analyses to examine all the arguments has further confused the main issues by the addition of a hopeless array of silly questions and moral stipulations that do justice to debating teams but not to clear thinking. An approach that might clarify the basic problem is to examine Chinese Nationalist and Communist attitudes on the key issue of Quemoy. Lessons drawn from this examination might prove instructive with respect to our real alternatives in China policy.
