Abstract

This article presents a country physician’s report from the French Department of the Haut-Rhin written for its Salubrity council in 1849.Though very simple in shape and content, this medical topography provides information which is rare in regard to its precision, its quality and its extent. It is striking how these physicians considered their task of healing people and organising sanitary prevention as a mission of civilisation.
