Abstract

This article aims to analyze the burning of the Amazon rainforest in 2019 and its environmental impacts and consequences in the light of International Public Environmental Law. Based on this event, in 2019 some heads of European states, such as Emmanuel Macron, president of France, took a stand against this practice in Brazil, questioning the country's sovereignty in the forest. Therefore, we seek to observe its sovereignty in the Amazon region, which is part of its territory, analyzing how Public International Law positions it before fires, based on the rules of classic and modern law, proposing a debate on the protection of the environment. , national sovereignty, principle of permanent sovereignty over natural resources, and what is the influence of the application of this principle. In this context, it is shown how Brazil has full jurisdiction over its territory. To understand this, a theoretical methodology and the use of primary sources such as reports will be carried out, as well as secondary sources such as articles, research and news.
