Abstract
This chapter looks at how Bertrand de Salignac de la Mothe Fenelon, French ambassador appointed at the English court in October 1568 until 1575, reported his perception of Queen Elizabeth I of England, her court, and country to the French monarchs. Though the French ambassador was in office during difficult times between France and England (notably the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre), this essay focuses on peaceful times between the two countries, exploring how La Mothe Fenelon viewed England, where he had to live for seven years, and the ruler with whom he had to work.
