Abstract

A common question asked in the conversation on gender inequities is: “are women toughest on each other?” Nearly 50 years after the notorious “Queen Bee” notion was popularised, it is sad to hear echoes of the stereotype of the successful, strong woman as being “bossy” and more prone to sabotaging other women than helping them. Yet this question is often asked by those invoking personal experiences or observations, rather than data, and we have encountered it often enough for it to be worth addressing.
