Abstract

A quasi-two-dimensional electron gas confined in a cylindrical quantum well in the presence of a strong quantized magnetic field and a nonquantized magnetic field is studied. A new kind of excitation whose dispersion relations are discrete and are directly dependent on angular quantum number and magnetic field is predicted. The frequency of these new modes is periodic with respect to magnetic field, in contrast to that of the normal magnetoplasmons in a two-dimensional electron gas. Numerical calculations also give the dispersion relations of the collective modes and single-particle excitation in a quantized magnetic field.
