Abstract
AbstractA 1D gas with maximal chaos in the sense of Sinai is considered. An idea originally proposed by Gibbs (that particle indistinguishability imposes a well‐defined symmetry having nontrivial quantitative implications) is investigated in the light of this example. A new quantitative implication of the Gibbs paradox, quasiperiodization, is found to apply to the present system.
