Abstract

In recent years considerable progress has been made in understanding the properties of intermediate valence impurities in non-magnetic host metals. Important theoretical advances have come about by utilizing renormalization group, Bethe Ansatz, and other field-theoretic techniques. Unfortunately, there has been much less progress in understanding intermediate valence compounds. Intermediate valence compounds, as the term is used here, are stoichiometric materials containing rare earth or actinide ions where the energy difference between the fn and fn−1 configurations lies close to the fermi energy.KeywordsHybrid ModeDynamic Structure FactorCrystal Field SplittingIntermediate ValenceOrbital DegeneracyThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
