Abstract

Two self-consistent quasilinear models of oblique whistler-mode instabilities are presented. The first one is based on the supposition of cyclotron excitation of the waves and predicts constancy of maximal spectral density and an increase of frequencies and bandwidth with increasing wave normal angle θ. The second is based on the supposition of Čerenkov excitation of the waves and predicts an increase of spectral density and a decrease of frequencies and bandwidth with increasing θ.
