Abstract

A simple general analytical formula is obtained forautoionization decay rates in parabolic quantum numbers forhighly excited atomic states. The formula is applicable foratomic transitions without change of principle quantum numbers(Δn = 0 transitions). A quasiclassical approach forelectron motion in a Coulomb field as well as for the Clebsh-Gordancoefficient is used for justification of the formula. Theresults obtained are of a universal type applicable for thedescription of autoionization decay rates in arbitrary ions withcomplex cores. A comparison with quantum numerical calculationresults shows reasonable correspondence between both types of data.
