Abstract

A theory of quasi-phase-matched generation of the third harmonic was extended to the case of two passes through a laser cavity. For this, a constant-intensity approximation of the fundamental radiation was used. An analytical expression for the optimum phase relationship was derived. It was shown that the harmonic conversion efficiency could be enhanced by compensating for undesirable phase shifts and choosing the optimum domain lengths.
