Abstract

The quasi-elastic p-α collision gives information about the clustering of the nucleons within the nucleus. Since the quasi-free p-p scattering has been successful in clarifying the single-particle shell structure of nuclei, single-particle harmonic oscillator wave functions are used here to calculate the angular correlation distribution of the quasielastic p-α collision. An interaction length is defined in terms of the probability of finding the α-particle cluster within the nucleus.
