Abstract

Self-guiding of an optical beam at energies close to and below the bandgap has been demonstrated in an active semiconductor optical amplifier under quasi CW conditions with a laser intensity of ~ 1.1 MW/cm2. A second beam at a 60 nm longer wavelength was guided and steered by the self-guided beam.
