Abstract

Summary This paper presents a quartz-thickness shear-mode transducer for use in a borehole environment. The pressure sensor is a direct-conversion device that uses a noncylindrical shell to convert and to transmit forces to the quartz-crystal resonator. A brief conceptual description of the transducer is given. Laboratory and field examples illustrate the exceptional performance of the quartz-thickness shear-mode transducer.
